PAUL KERES, 1916 - 1975
 
Paul Keres was born in Narva on 7 January 1916. At the University of Tartu, he studied mathematics from 1938 to 1941. Paul Keres first appeared in the international chess arena in the mid-1930s, and remained a prominent figure there for years. By the end of 1950s, he was one of the strongest chess players in the world. In 1975, the great Estonian grandmaster Paul Keres died suddenly at the age of 59.

Rapid: Remembering Paul Keres

THE MAIN TOURNAMENT will be a seven-round rapid (15+15 minutes + a 10- second increment) round-robin. The 4 best of the preliminary tournament, 2 personally invited foreign players and 2 personally invited best Estonian male chess players will participate in the tournament.

The tournament will take place from January 7 to 9, 2011 at Sokos Hotel Viru (Viru väljak 4).

We will show LIVE games from Paul Keres Memorial final tournament. Probably also first tables for preliminary tournament during tests on January 7th-8th tournament.

International Youth Tournament

Purpose of the Competition is celebrating the 95th birth anniversary of Paul Keres, giving young chess players an opportunity to participate at international competitions and developing friendly relations with neighboring countries. To clarify the chess players who will qualify to the final tournaments of Estonian U18 and U16 boys and girls championships.

Tournament will be held in Paul Keres Chess House (Vene tn 29) on January 4-7.
