Eesti noorte lahtistel esivõistlustel Tallinnas osales 56 noormeest ja 20 neidu, kaasa mängisid lisaks Läti ja Soome noored. Noormeestest võitis kindlalt Aleksander Volodin ja neidudest Aia Uipite. Punktide jagamisel arvestati koefitsenti.

The 14th International Tournament "Paul Keres Memorial" men tournament won by Spain
GM Alexei Shirov (5.5p), followed GM Teimour Radjabov (AZE) 4.5p and
GM Alexei Dreev (RUS), GM Yevgeni Sveshnikov (LAT) both 4p.
Women tournament won by GM Maia Chiburdanidze (GEO) 6p, followed
Viktoria Bashkite (EST) 5p and WIM Tatjana Fomina (EST), WIM Monika Tsoganova (EST) both
4p. Our young female Viktoria Bashkite did ecxellent perfomance, that was pleasent
surprise for all of us.
Estonian rapid chess champion 2003 is IM Meelis Kanep who lost only one game
and won all others, 10 points from 11 and 1.5 points ahead of other concurents. He is
best junior 2003 and got second place on Estonian Men Championship 2003. There was
81 participants on rapid event, but without GM-s Kaido Kulaots, Jaan Ehlvest and Mikhail Rytshagov.
Best senior was IM Hillar Karner. Last year winner was GM Kaido Kulaots.
