Actually there were 101 boards in match between Estonia and Finland with score 45.5 - 55.5 but official matches has always been maximum in 100 boards, so Estonia lost 45.5 - 54.5. It was historical moment because Estonia had never been lost to Finland before. Tournament was held in Helsinki (Finland) and home city or place is one of the important factors in those matches. In some point of few it was even good that Finland won, so hopefully in future there will be more interest and fight between neighbours...

Second year in the row Estonian chess champion is IM Meelis Kanep who got 7 points from 9. Second and third were FM Andrei Kalinitshev and IM Olav Sepp. It was one of the strongest championships in last years, our grandmasters were far behind the first ones.

Estonian women champion 2005 is WIM Monika Tsiganova. She got 10 points from 11. Second was Valeria Gansvind (9p), who lived in Russia earlier years. And the third was Viktoria Bashkite (7.5p).

Eesti seenioride meistriks tuli Hillar Kärner, kes kogus 7 punkti 7-st. Teiseks tuli 4 punktiga Leo Teemäe ja kolmandaks Heino Mirme samuti 4 punktiga. Turniir toimus 24.-28. mail Põlvas ja osales 8 maletajat.

Suurmeister Jaan Ehlvest jagas Ameerikas korraldatud Chicago Openil 5.5 punktiga esimest kohta. Ehlvest võitis neli ja viigistas kolm partiid. Sama palju punkte said veel Vadim Milov, Igor Novikov ja Petr Kiriakov. Edasi järgnesid 5 punktiga Evgeny Najer, Dmitry Gurevich, Alexander Shabalov, Artur Jussupov, Darmen Sadvakasov, Benjamin Finegold, Zviad Izoria, Dashze Sharavdorj ja Vladimir Georgiev.
